The 2018 floods in Kerala were one of the most devastating natural disasters in the state's recent history.The floods occurred during the monsoon season in August 2018, particularly between August 8 and August 21.

The state experienced unusually heavy rainfall during this period, with some areas receiving more than double their average rainfall. The continuous downpour led to severe flooding across Kerala. All 14 districts of Kerala were affected by the floods. Several rivers, including the Periyar, Chalakudy, and Pamba, overflowed, causing extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and agricultural land.

Relief and Rescue Efforts: The government, along with the armed forces, local volunteers, and various organizations, launched extensive rescue and relief operations. Thousands of people were evacuated to safer areas, and relief camps were set up to provide shelter, food, and medical aid.

The floods caused significant damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, buildings, and public utilities. Agricultural crops were destroyed, and there were substantial losses to the economy. The rehabilitation and reconstruction process took months and involved various initiatives to support affected communities.

The 2018 Kerala floods highlighted the need for improved disaster management and preparedness in the region. The government and local authorities have since been implementing measures to mitigate the impact of future flood events.

When we saw devastating images from Kerela, a state known for its beauty, our heart were fall in pain and we thought to do something for them, because situation was really out of control. We decided to buy all types of food material and medicine and planned to go Kerela. But from Delhi to Kerala was not easy and where to go in Kerela was a very tough task and on the top of its language barrier. But honestly saying, none of the barriers stopped us to be there. When we go to Railway officers, there asked us to handover all the material to us and they will send to Kerala. But why our heart didn’t give permission and we booked all the 20 Quintal material to Kerela express and we were 6 people including 2 cook. We went to Coimbatore and booked one tampon and took some idea where we should go in Kerela, where help was needed.

After 6 hours of journey we went to Chalakudy small village and then we were guided to Municipality office and there we saw ton of food and other materials was kept and we have been told to handover all the material and watch how we distribute. We did as they said but somehow, we met local person out side, he told us real story that these food material will only be distributed who will come here and on the top, they will distribute to his own person. All of sudden we decided to took our material back and we fought to take our material back, but somehow, we did and we went to one community hall at 11 pm in night, where we saw more than 400 people were staying and they were literally the one who was in real help need. We took charge and our cook prepared food for all of them . we served them 7 days with food , medicine and cloths.

Overall we were returned back with carrying so many blessings . May god bless of the us and not put us in any unwanted situation but somehow many things goes wrong then we should stand together as a brother and sisters .
